For moms, dads and grandparents

Their stories, kept in a book you'll pass down.

Every week we send your parent one thoughtful question. They answer by typing or simply talking. After a year, every answer and photo is bound into a hardcover book your family will keep for generations.

How it works

Three steps. A year of stories.

  1. 1

    You pick the questions

We suggest one gentle question each week, from childhood memories to the lessons they would pass on. Swap any of them for a question you have always wanted to ask.

  2. 2

    They answer their way

Each week one question arrives by email. They reply in writing, or send a voice memo and we type it up. Old photos can be attached to any story.

  3. 3

We bind it into a book

When the year is done, you look over the pages with them, and we print and ship a hardcover book.

Type or talk

However they like to tell it

Some people are natural writers. Others would rather lean back and talk, the way they tell stories at the dinner table.

  • Write it. Reply to the weekly email from any computer or tablet.
  • Say it. Send a voice memo from their phone; we type it up for them.
  • Review before print. You both see every page before the book is printed.
  • Follow along. We email you each new story the week it's told.

The questions

The questions you never thought to ask

A few examples. Each one opens a door to a story you haven't heard.

  • What did your street sound like on a summer evening when you were ten?
  • How did you and Mom (or Dad) really meet?
  • What was the first thing you ever bought with your own money?
  • Which teacher changed the way you saw yourself?
  • What did you think your life would look like at 30?
  • What's a family recipe you hope we never lose?
  • Tell us about the hardest year you got through.
  • What were you most nervous about the day I was born?
  • Which song takes you straight back to being young?
  • What's something your parents taught you without saying it?
  • What are you proudest of that nobody knows about?
  • What do you want your great-grandchildren to know about you?

The book

Made to be kept, read and passed down

Every story becomes its own chapter, with the photos they chose printed beside it. The result reads like a memoir, in their own words and their own voice.

Why it matters

The stories go when no one writes them down

Most of us know our parents as parents. We know far less about the kid they were, the risks they took, or the moments that shaped them. Those stories are easy to put off until it's too late to ask.

Parents Memory Book makes asking easy: one small question a week, and a book at the end that keeps their voice in the family for good.

FAQ

Common questions

Does my parent need to be good with technology?

No. Questions arrive by email and they can reply right there. If they'd rather talk, they can send a voice memo from their phone and we'll type it up. There's no app to install.

What if they skip a week?

That's fine. Questions wait for them, and they can answer at their own pace.

Can the family follow along?

Yes. We email you each new story as it's told, so you can share it with siblings and grandchildren.

When do we get the book?

After the year of questions, or earlier if you're ready. You review the pages, choose the cover, and we print and ship your hardcover.

Can I give it as a gift?

Yes. Tell us the date you'd like the first question to arrive, and we'll send you a printable card to wrap.

How does billing work?

The plan is $99 a year per storyteller. It includes a year of weekly questions and one hardcover book. It renews once a year so the stories can keep coming, and we email you before each renewal.

Can I cancel?

Yes, anytime, online at parentsmemorybook.com/manage. Cancel before your renewal date and you won't be charged again. The stories already told stay yours, and your book is still printed.

Tell us who it's for. After checkout, we'll email you to set up their first question.
